چکیده
new procedure being described which involves deliberately preventing blood from passing through the chambers and valves of the heart. In some of these operations, when considerable time is required for their completion, a partial solution has been found in the employment of by-pass techniques. These methods demand extensive vascular surgery to connect the apparatus to the patient, and large volumes of blood must be added to the circulation because of the extracorporeal pumping and oxygenation. As the result, the hazards of by-pass techniques are not negligible. Various attempts have been made to perform the shorter intracardiac operations without the use of an extracorporeal circulation. In general, the principle used has been to arrest the inflow of blood to the heart during the time necessary to complete the operation. This has involved the arrest of the cerebral circulation, and the limiting factor has been the survival time of the cerebral tissues in the absence of circulation.

متن کاملInflow Venous Occlusion for Intracardiac Resection of an Occluding Right Ventricular Tumor.
Use of normothermic venous inflow occlusion enabled removal of an intracardiac tumor in a 4 yr old, 27 kg, spayed female Airedale terrier with a history of appendicular osteosarcoma and recent exertional syncope. Inflow venous occlusion via a median sternotomy thoracotomy without hypothermia was used to access the mineralized mass within the right ventricular outflow tract. Duration of circulat...
متن کاملA case of recovery from coma produced by the ingestion of 250 ml of halothane.
A case is reported of narcotic coma in a female lasting 36 hours as a result of deliberate ingestion of 250 ml of halothane. Aspiration of gastric contents led to cardiac arrest which was successfully treated. Artificial ventilation was needed. Halothane hepatitis did not develop despite prolonged episodes of respiratory and circulatory failure and medication with drugs known to interfere with ...

Deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) has been used routinely for surgery involving the aortic arch. Recently, techniques have been developed that avoid circulatory arrest and maintain low̄ow cerebral perfusion (LFCP) in an attempt to avoid the potential neurological sequelae associated with DHCA. We describe a technique of LFCP that avoids circulatory arrest and direct cannulation of the a...
